The initial inspiration came from shadows cast on grass. Months later she devised a process which did not create the object she chose on the canvas as an image that was flat. The subject becomes a replica of itself, with the canvas carrying the painterly interpretation of the object, particularly when it's a live thing or food item, such as fruit or people. Alexa's style of painting exhibits a hazy quality the only thing left of Alexa Meade is her photograph. Trompe l'oeil can be achieved through the combination of two methods of photography and painting. This creates an unflattened and two-dimensional picture. Meade is also able to integrate her painted models within the 3D space that surrounds them. Their interaction and this created world can be achieved. The line that separates photography and painting is dissolved.
